Best Products for Hair Loss

There are many factors that contribute to hair loss, hormones, heredity, stress, illness, diet, and poor hair care can all help to cause hair loss. Diet, stress, and illness are the temporary conditions and once you either remove the stress or cure the illness, change the diet, things should in most cases go back to normal.

Hormones and heredity are a much more different matter. Heredity is a condition that is irreversible. Your parents pass certain physical traits along to there children and hair loss can often be one of these. With hormones, it is completely different and they will have effect people differently.

With men, the testosterone is abundant in the body. There is a substance produced from testosterone called DHT. This is well known to cause hair loss in men by shrinking the hair follicles. What happens is that the hair follicles shrink enough so that they are not able to product any hair. Then as the older hair dies off, no new hairs are produced to replace them.

In Women, a hormonal imbalance can be the cause of hair loss. Menopause, pregnancy and even childbirth can all significantly change hormonal levels in the body leading to both mental and physical effects. This can lead to hair loss either permanent or temporary.

Products to help with hair loss and re growth have existed for centuries. The American Indians, Mayans, Aztecs, and Egyptians used a verity of oil based and herbal remedies with varying degrees of effectiveness.

For the most part, medical research has been focusing on ways to help to reopen and stimulate the hair follicles that are “dead”. The hair would then grow as it would normally and also helps to avoid damaging the still healthy hair follicles. This has lead to a number of products being available both over the counter and also by prescription.

One main ingredient in many of these hair loss products is Minoxidil. There has been research done to show that about 80% of people will find that this helps to slow hair loss and also can cause regrowth in some.

Another product that contains minoxidil is Provillus, and studies have shown that it is effective. Provillus is different from other similar products in that it has an added ingredient, Azelaic Acid; this seems to enhance follicle repair in men and women.

The Cause of Female Hair Loss in Most Women

Hair loss in women is a major cause of concern for them because women are more vain than men. For women, their hair is a huge part of their looks and thinning hair or hair loss can cause stress and depression. The cause of female hair loss can be linked to many things. There are many possible reasons why a woman may have hair loss or thinning hair and these can be natural causes or due to exposure to factors that can trigger hair loss.

Outside factors which might cause hair loss in women include medications, surgery trauma, illness, childbirth and some diseases. Exposure to elements and chemicals might contribute to the problem but these are rare cases and are normally easy to diagnose right away.

People naturally shed hair everyday of our lives. Our hair has a growth cycle of around two to six years wherein a strand may grow continuously and eventually fall out at the end of the cycle after a short resting period. The natural cause of female hair loss is this ending of the cycle where the strands fall out. The follicles will then grow another strand of hair and the cycle continues. The growth cycle for each strand is different which is why we always have falling hair everyday of our lives.

Some women prefer a specific hairstyle which might be responsible for hair loss. Wearing your hair in a tight ponytail can irritate the hair follicles by continually pulling on the hair. This makes the hair follicle die out and release the hair. This female hair loss cause can be easily rectified by finding a different hairstyle or wearing the hair loose.

Childbirth can affect female hair loss. Being pregnant releases hormones which improve a woman’s hair and skin. After childbirth, these hormones are no longer produced, which can cause female hair loss. Some women will lose only a small amount of hair and hardly notice it whereas others lose enough to make them nervous.

As you can see, any one of the above can be blamed to the cause of female hair loss. They are easy to spot as they are noticeable factors. Other causes not mentioned here are often the result of outside factors or diseases.

Your Own Homemade Hair Care Products

Why do we want to have hair that look good all the time? It is because it is one thing that people will notice first and they will usually remember it better. To achieve this we have all sorts of stuff that can be used like curling irons, combs, brushes and flat irons.

Why are the bathroom shelves full of sprays and gels and the bathtub is full of hot oil treatments, shampoos, and conditioners? No doubt that we hope all these products give us spectacular hair. Do they really work because if not you are wasting lot of money. However by using homemade Hair Care products you can save money and have beautiful hair. In addition, most homemade hair care ingredients are already in your kitchen.

Everyone wants glossy hair as if they are just walking out of a salon. To most of us shiny hair is a sign of peaceful soul and a healthy body and spend a lot of many buying sprays and conditioners in the hope of having fresh-from-the-salon glow hair. However some of them will make your hair feel sticky to the touch.

Actually if you are using too much leave in sprays they will weigh down your hair while using too much of shine enhancing sprays will make your hair appear oily and unwashed rather then the shine that you are hoping for. However by using homemade hair care products not only you can save money, but they can restore your hair natural shine.

Beer

The homemade hair care product that has been historically used to add shine to a person’s hair is beer. Beer is so effective at making hair shiny that several of the best hair care company’s include it in the shampoos and conditioners that are later sold at salons. To avoid the strong beer odor the hair care companies did some research and found that it wasn’t so much the beer itself that made hair shiny, but rather that the key was the hops (a beer ingredient) that added the glow.

Using Tea

If you find that the idea of pouring a can of beer over head isn’t your idea of a good time, tea has also been a successful handmade hair remedy that adds shine. By simply setting a tea bag on your scalp isn’t going to do a whole lot. You need to boil the water, and give the teabag time to seep, when the homemade hair care product has had time to cool pour it over your hair.

Use Espresso

If you can’t stand the strong smell of beer or don’t like tea? Why not give espresso a try? When you are making a cup of espresso why not brew an extra cup of this caffeine rich drink (try to make it extra strong) and pour it over your head. Don’t give me that face, if you want to achieve the shiniest results pour the espresso on your dry hair. Rinse it off 20 minutes after giving your head a cup of coffee.

Pregnancy’s Link to Female Hair Loss

Changes to hair and body are normal during a woman’s pregnancy. Some will experience more healthy and beautiful hair, while other women will actually experience changes that are less than appealing. One change is hair loss, starting with noticing additional hair on their pillow, and brush. To keep this from moving to an abnormal states is to eat right and check with your doctor about taking vitamins that will help with hair maintenance.

Changes in hair health can allow women to start feeling self-conscious, yet realizing that these changes are temporary should help improve their confidence. That is because usually around six to twelve weeks after childbirth women’s hair return back to a normal state.

Hormonal imbalance is actually the biggest cause of hair loss in pregnant women. And most won’t begin experiencing hair loss until after the birth of their child. The rise in a woman’s hormones are what causes the hair to get thicker and stronger. This change also enacts a resting period and upon returning to a normal state a woman will begin to experience hair loss.

Pregnancy is a time when normal female hair loss is slowed , but the time after pregnancy is when time must be made up. Therefore, post pregnancy a woman’s hair loss increases. Other reproductive health matters can also trigger increased hair loss. Miscarriages , stillbirth, abortion, hormonal fluctuations, and the stopping of birth control are all factors that can trigger hair loss.

For keeping your hair healthy during and after pregnancy is to stay in constant contact with your doctor to keep hormones properly balanced. Certain hairstyles that damage the follicles should also be avoided. These include cornrows, hair weaves, braids, pigtails, pony tails, and the use of tight rollers. The damage that can be done could possibly result in hair loss. Keeping to a diet consisting primarily of fruits and vegetables will protect the hair follicle and also help encourage hair growth. Shampoos and conditioners that are well balanced in nutrients can also provide for a healthy head of hair.

There are hair loss treatments available that are specifically designed for women. Prior to using a hair loss treatment we stress going over the ingredients with your doctor. Doctors’ will be able to advise you on what ingredients you need to avoid. This is even more crucial when it comes to staying healthy while pregnant.

Before Buying the Wrong Night Cream: Look for these Ingredients!

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008
by Dr. Samantha Fine

As an important part of your beauty routine, night cream is often discussed as a must have. However, no one really focuses attention on what ingredients are essential to a great night cream.

You must buy only night creams that contain the following three types of compounds. Avoid night creams that do not have the proper concentrations of (a) cellular renewal compounds that rejuvenate the skin at the epidermis’ microscopic level, (b) collagen enhancers that boost skin elasticity, firmness, and smoothness; and (c) free radical fighters composed of antioxidants that reverse the aging impact of the environment and sunlight.

Finally you must select a night cream that contains a fantastic natural moisturizer. For example many great creams use time release encapsulated moisturizers (great for night time use). Others utilize marine and yeast blends that revitalize the skin. Certain luxury creams even rely on caviar, yes fish egg, emolients to enrich and nourish the skin.

And do not forget that price is not an indicator of quality. A good night cream will contain the ingredients listed above and will have them in the right concentration. So investigate, find right night creams and try a new product. However, be aware that you must devote at least 6-8 weeks to a new night cream in order for it to have time to work. Because wasting time with a product that just won’t work, is more than just wasted time and money you aren’t properly protecting your skin, you won’t be turning back the clock on aging and you might be damaging your skin.

Shopping for the right products, discussed above, can be time consuming. While your favorite boutique could have great products, often they carry a limited selection and getting there can be such a battle. I recommend one source: http://www.nighttimemoisturizers.com. This site is devote solely to night cream and contains a treasure trove of information and articles on this subject. You will find products that contain all of the ingredients that I’ve discussed in this article and they have products at every price point for every skin type.

Must Know Information About Hair Loss Procedures

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008
by C. Gray

When you start to notice hair loss you may be overwhelmed at the fact that your hair is thinning. Women experience this every day and you may need to find a solution to your hair loss in order to restore growth again. You may be taking a medication for a condition that is causing your hair loss and that may be temporary or you may need to have your medication dosage adjusted. For the most part your hair loss is temporary but for some it may be just the beginning of female baldness.

Some women are looking for a quick relief alternative when it comes to restoring hair growth. However, not all procedures of hair restoration are safe. It goes without saying that there are risks concerning hair restoration procedures, but you may not know all of the possible risks that could be linked to hair restoration.

Hair restoration is the process of transplanting follicles, that are healthy, to encourage hair growth. It does take a long time to train the doctor, and all the staff, to have this procedure performed correctly, so he/she may do something different to restore your hair growth. Even with a doctor that is well versed in performing the following procedures, there can still be incidences that can possibly occur. For example:

- The Flap procedure possesses quite a few reasons for you to avoid it. If your hair loss is significant in the front or top of the head, an alternative way to cover it will help. Just do not include this procedure in your list of options. Complications that can arise include:

- A knot occurring where the flap was twisted

- The flap may end up being unproductive and therefore will no longer produce hair

- Hairline will not be the same

- Skin becomes very loose-fitting on the forehead

- Behind the new front hair line there is still hair growth that can be seen

- The new flap is not centered and set correctly

- The flap results in a scar that can be very well noticed

There are other procedures in which to choose from. These additional options include: Round or Square Grafts, Scalp Reduction, hair lifts, and Line or Linear Grafts.

There are several different procedures that can permanently scar your natural beauty. For best results weigh all your options before making a final decision and consult with more than one doctor. Have a family member or a friend that can go along for a second opinion. The final result is one that you need to live with for the rest of your life.

Does Vitamin Deficiency Cause Temporary Hair Loss

Thursday, May 15th, 2008
by The Alternate Medic

We all need a diet rich in vitamins, minerals and trace elements to provide us with a balanced diet for good health.

For those whose hair lines are receding the search goes on to find the cure. What they might not understand is that in most cases, it is completely normal for hair to fall out. Permanent hair loss, or pattern baldness, occurs when genetics prevent new hair from growing sufficiently to replace the ones that fall out.

It must be recognized that there are other cases when hair loss can be a sign of a serious medical problem. This condition is known as temporary hair loss, because genes did not predetermine the loss of hair. A major cause of temporary hair loss is vitamin deficiency.

Vital Vitamins To Prevent Hair Loss

Vitamins are extremely important to maintaining a healthy head of hair. Hair loss could be caused by a deficiency of one or several vitamins in any of these nutrients. Fortunately, all that is necessary to reverse the temporary hair loss is following a helthy diet!

For example, vitamin A promotes the healthy growth of both cells and tissue in various parts of the body, including the cells in the scalp and hair. A deficiency in vitamin A can lead to hair loss and dandruff, especially if the deficiency occurs for an extended period of time. We recommend that you get the vitamin A you need by consuming lots of leafy vegetables, colorful fruits, liver, eggs, and fish oil.

Another area where hair loss can be caused by a vitamin deficiency is when you are lacking in one or more of three B vitamins. These three B vitamins (more specifically folic acid, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12) are important to the creation of red blood cells and hemoglobin, which carries oxygen to various body tissues, including the hair cells. This vitamin deficiency can cause hair loss due to the reduced blood and oxygen supply to the hair. Vitamin B can be found in: chicken, fish, whole grains, beets, and orange juice.

If you are suffering from a vitamin deficiency in biotin this could also cause hair loss. Though deficiency in biotin is rare, it has been observed in some cases. Biotin can be found in select foods, and it is also produced in the intestines by good bacteria. If you are eating a healthy diet it is most unlikely that you will ever experience hair loss as a result of this vitamin deficiency. However, if this does occur, vitamin supplements can be taken.

What Else?

The following vitamins and minerals are important to the growth and maintenance of hair. These vitamins and minerals include zinc, iron, vitamin C, and copper. If you do not receive an adequate amount of these vitamins, make sure to look for food sources rich in these vitamins and minerals or begin taking supplements.

It Could Be That Easy!

If you are suffering from hair loss, you are no doubt willing to go to any extent to find a cure. For some, it’s as easy as making changes to their diet. Wouldn’t it be great if everyone could simply change their eating habits to get the results they want to see?

As modern medicine continues in research and development, it is not to hard to conceive that some of the hair loss treatments available today do actually work in stimulating re-growth of the hair follicles where once there was none. No individual is the same and each may react differently to different treatments therefore, it may require you to try different treatments before finding the one that works for you.

Can Hair Loss Result From The Use of Birth Control?

Thursday, May 15th, 2008
by C. Gray

The FDA approved the use of the birth control pill back in the 1960’s for the purpose of preventing women from becoming pregnant. Women quickly discovered it was more advantageous to prevent pregnancy by taking a pill. They also found that it regulated their periods, minimized cramping experienced during menstrual periods, and also cleared up acne on their faces.

The same type of hormones that the body naturally made are contained within many of the birth control pills available. These hormones, known as estrogen and progestin, play important roles in balancing out hormonal systems. Some kind of side effect is to be expect with the taking of birth control pills.

Several different side effects have been experienced by women who have taken the birth control pill. The side effects range from mild to severe and causes several difficult problems. Hair loss is an example of just one of the several side effects that have been reported. If a family history of female pattern baldness or thinning hair does exist you may want to consider this before undertaking birth control pills.

You should talk to your doctor and find out what options are available to you in relation to taking birth control pills, as some birth control methods have less hormone levels in the actual dosages. Typically, your doctor will suggest starting with a low dose birth control pill. Your doctor may even recommend a birth control pill without hormones for those with a family history of hair loss.

If you have a high potential of hair loss you may want to avoid the following type of birth control:

-Hormone injections - These are direct injections of the hormone progestin. These progestin injections will help to prevent you from ovulating completely.

-Skin patch - This patch can be worn on your body and it continually releases the hormones progestin and estrogen into the body at a low dose

-Implants - A computerized device, containing progestin, is surgically implanted into woman’s body. This device is specifically progammed to release a continual dose of the hormone to prevent the body from ovulating.

The choice to take the birth control pill will require continuous monitoring of any hair loss just in case the need for an alternative is warranted. It is always a possibility that there may be a more effective form of birth control that doesn’t allow for hair loss. Talk to your doctor about all the options available to you before choosing to utilize the birth control pill. No sign of hereditary hair loss? You then may be fine to start using the birth control pill without experiencing hair loss.

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008
by Hazel Hughes

When it comes to hair care, there are a few important issues to discuss, one of the most prominent one is laser hair care. The most regular use for laser hair care is to assist with hair loss, as many people would like their hair to be removed off some parts of their body such as the legs, back, and chest. Laser hair removal is known to be very efficient because different from shaving where it only removes the hair temporarily, while laser hair removal provides results longer or permanently.

Services for Laser Hair Care

The New Hair Institute has been around since 1992, though there are some great laser hair care services available out there these days, they are still truly a world leader in innovating hair transplantation techniques, performing clinical research, and in teaching these many different techniques to the hair transplantation community.

The TLC Dermal Laser Clinic is another great choice here, and they are a company which is truly dedicated to providing a long term cosmetics skin care solution to unwanted and excess body hair. They realize that laser hair removal is a very personal decision and because of this they respect each client’s privacy and offers tailored service in a confidential setting at all of their locations.

When to Speak to a Doctor

It would be best, if anyone who chooses to go for any sort of laser hair care procedure to speak to their doctor first. We don’t deny that there will be qualified professionals assisting at the laser hair center as well, but if you speak to your own doctor first this is still the best idea. After all, there may be some risks or dangers to the particular procedure involved which the person may not aware of.

The doctor will be able to work along with the person and help them to determine whether or not this is the best option for them, and discuss any possible side effects or other dangers with them. For instance there are some medications that are not safe to use when having a laser hair care treatment, so this will have to be brought to attention.

You should make sure that you are aware of all other laser hair care available as well that do not involve lasers before making any decisions. Of course everyone wants to have the healthiest, most beautiful hair if they can, and this means making the right hair care decisions. Luckily, there are many great hair care products available that can help one to do this if laser hair care is not their option.
